FROM THE WRITER
This was my introduction to the World of documentary film making, and
let me tell you it's not easy! This film was over 2 years in the making;
over 800 man hours. Chris and I began brainstorming the project at the
end of 2004 and I started writing the script. We scoured hundreds of
hours of footage to fit the vision we had for the film. We obsessed over
a voice over talent for the narration and finally came across Richard
Green from CA who does work for SPIKE TV. It is quite a long and tedious
process, but we wanted the final product to be TV ready.
Being a coach for Team Bergamo,
founded by Ralph Bergamo, I was part of the events, competitions, and
media coverage that this documentary captures. Team Bergamo has brought
the spectacle that is Martial Arts' Breaking to a new level, and to the
forefront of many World and National competitive arenas. There are no
tricks or gimmicks involved in Team Bergamo's performances (I was there
and have the scars to prove it), just shear will, strength, experience, and mental
fortitude! Ralph Bergamo and I have also formed the
United States and World
Breaking Associations
to further the Art of
Breaking and Martial Arts' competitions around the globe.
Drew Serrano
DIRECTOR STATEMENT
This is my first documentary attempt. Over the years Drew Serrano gave
me tid bits of info regarding his team and what they have accomplished
over the years. It wasn't until I decided to do a film on them did I
actually see with my own eyes what these guys actually did. I was
stunned. I traveled with them to a few tournaments in the country and
it was remarkable.
I have never seen so much
power. They have scratched my back over the years with my films, now it
was my turn to scratch theirs. I think we gotta winner here.
Chris Vallone
PRODUCTION NOTES
Seeing these guys break wood and concrete on set after set was just
unreal. You really have to see it with your own eyes to appreciate the
sheer power of what the human body can do. Each set was loaded with
materials bought from Home Depot. Closing off the streets of NYC to do
the Dave Letterman show was also a trip as it took hours just to set up
all the stations for Leif to Break in one minute.
